Each Noun belongs to one of the three Genders: Masculine, Feminine, Neuter.

In most cases the Gender of the Nouns has a formal meaning, therefore it can be distinguished by the last letter of word (with the exception of nouns which have the ending ь).

The following nouns belong to the Masculine Gender:
- nouns, ending in the consonant:
    hard stem - стол, студент
   soft stem - музей, герой

The Feminine Gender incorporates:
- nouns, ending in -А:
    hard stem -комната, студентка
- nouns, ending in -Я:
    soft stem -земля, семья.аудитория

The following nouns belong to the Neuter Gender:
- nouns ending in -О:
    hard stem -окно
- nouns ending in -Е:
    soft stem -море, здание

Remember!

1. Words ending in -A -Я , denoting males, are related to the Masculine Gender -юноша, мужчина, дядя.
2. All nouns ending in -МЯ belong to the Neuter Gender-имя, пламя, племя, время, знамя, семя.
If a word has in the end -Ь, it can belong to the Masculine or the Feminine Genders

In some cases awareness of Rules helps to determine the Gender of the Nouns

1. If the Noun ends in hissing letters and in -Ь, this Noun relates to the Feminine Gender.

Masculine Gender	Feminine Gender
- луч - карандаш - нож	- ночь - мышь - рожь

2,3,4. The Masculine Gender comprises:
    Nouns with suffixes:
    - АРЬ - словарь
   - ТЕЛЬ - учитель, писатель
   Nouns - the names of the months;

5. The Feminine Gender incorporates Nouns ending in suffix -ОСТЬ-
   - жидкость, гордость;

6. In other cases it is recommended to consult in the dictionary.
